Rewriting
Both specific and general assertions are mostly repeated without being re-examined. They eventually become established as ‘truth’. That is how we take for granted a family myth, a character assassination, the interpretation of an artwork, a gender assumption.
Attitudes and points of reference change, however, over time. With hindsight old certainties shift and a more nuanced perception is possible. Rewriting a story can right a wrong.
